1921

THE FIRST ELECTRIC SOLDERING IRON

Ersa company founder Ernst Sachs files a patent application for the Ersa H1, the first electric soldering iron, on July 8, 1921.

 

1921

THE COMPANY FOUNDATION

The birth of ERSA - On November 18, 1921, ERnst SAchs registers the "First Special Factory for Electric Soldering Irons" as a business in Berlin.

 

1923

THE COMPANY IS SUCCESSFUL

Despite inflation and economic crises, the business grows steadily. In 1923, a larger workshop is already being rented at Marienfelder Straße 87 in Berlin.

 

1925

THE PROGRAM IS EXPANDED

In addition to the 200-watt soldering irons, lighter versions for the electrical industry and tin melting pots are produced. Trade show visits further boost the business.

 

1927

THE FIRST OWN FACTORY

In 1927, the first Ersa factory is built as a residential and factory building at Manteuffelstraße 10a in Berlin.

 

1943-1945

THE RELOCATION IN TIMES OF WAR

In 1943, air attacks on Berlin require moving the main part of the production to Teuplitz, Lower Silesia. While the Berlin factory is hit by bombs in 1945, Soviet forces occupy the Teuplitz plant.

 

1946-1948

THE NEW START IN WERTHEIM

In 1946, production was resumed in a barrack next to Wertheim train station. A new residential and factory building is completed at Ferdinand-Hotz-Straße 3 in 1948.

 

1949

INTERNATIONALLY SUCCESSFUL

Ersa attends the first export trade fair in Hanover. The triumph of the Ersa 30 soldering iron begins.

 

1953

THE NEXT GENERATION

Ernst Sachs junior joins the company and helps to develop Ersa from a soldering equipment manufacturer into a system supplier for the electrotechnical industry.

 

1961

MACHINE SOLDERING

With distributing the Flowsolder soldering machines of the English manufacturer FRY's, Ersa introduces machine soldering to the German market.

 

1961-1962

NEW BUILDING IN BESTENHEID

In 1961, a production building for manufacturing soldering irons was built in the Bauhaus style on the present company grounds in Wertheim-Bestenheid. A new administration building followed one year later.

 

1968

ERSA SOLDERING MACHINES

Ersa quickly identifies the potential in machine soldering and develops and sells its own EST soldering systems in already in 1968.

 

1971

MECHANICAL REGULATION

In 1971, Ersa launched the TC 70, the first soldering iron with a mechanical temperature control built into the handle. The factory in Leonhard-Karl-Straße had already become too small and was expanded again.

 

1974

ELECTRONIC REGULATION

Ersa customers can from now on use the TE 50 soldering station, the first electronically temperature-controlled Ersa soldering iron.

 

1977

A GREAT ENTREPRENEUR

In recognition of his great achievements, company founder Ernst Sachs is awarded the Rudolf Diesel Medal in Nuremberg in 1964. In 1977, the entrepreneur died at the age of 87.

 

1983-1985

ARSON AND NEW THE MACHINE FACTORY

Following a burglary with arson, large parts of the soldering equipment production were destroyed in 1983. The damage exceeds DM 6 million. Two years later, a new manufacturing and administration building for soldering machines is built.

 

1986

REFLOW SOLDERING MACHINES FOR SMD'S

When surface-mounted technology became popular, wave soldering reached its limits. After initially selling reflow soldering systems based on infrared radiation from a US partner, Ersa developed with the ERS series the first own reflow generation from 1986.

 

1987

The computer has arrived in hand soldering

Ersa presents the first microprocessor-controlled soldering station CPS 60.1. Several stations can be networked and controlled by PC via process control software - a pioneering and future-oriented concept.

 

1993

ERSA BECOMES KURTZ SUBSIDIARY

On 01.01.1993 Ersa is integrated into the Kurtz Group. A significant step for the further successful internationalization, since Kurtz's own subsidiaries in the USA and Asia can now also be used.

 

1994-1995

So-No-Clean AND HOTFLOW

Under the name So-No-CleanTM, Ersa develops the flux-free wave soldering process using ultrasound to series production readiness. In 1995, the worldwide success of the full convection reflow soldering machines of the HOTFLOW series begins.

 

1997

PROFESSIONAL REPAIR SOLDERING

Maintaining added value - Back in 1997, Ersa launched the IR 500 Rework System, a repair soldering station with patented aperture system for replacing defective electronic components.

 

1999

ERSASCOPE VISUAL INSPECTION

Ersa receives numerous innovation awards for the ERSASCOPE visual inspection system and the ERSA ImageDoc quality assurance software, including the Dr. Rudolf Eberle Prize from the state of Baden-Württemberg; Ersa Inc. is founded in Plymouth, WI, USA.

 

2001

VERSAFLOW SELECTIVE SOLDERING

In addition to wave soldering machines, Ersa is now successful with selective soldering machines for inline operation, too. In the year 2001, the 100th VERSAFLOW is already being produced.

 

2002-2003

AWARDED AND CERTIFIED

Ersa wins the SMT Vision Award at APEX 2002 in San Diego for its IR 550 A BGA rework system. In 2003 the company organizes Lead Free Technology Days in Kreuzwertheim and is certified according to DIN ISO 9001:2000.

 

2007

The first Ersa printer

Stencil printers have been part of the Ersa portfolio since 2007. The Ersa VERSAPRINT models already have 100% solder paste inspection integrated which is an absolutely unique selling point.

 

2008

EVERYTHING IN TIME

Soldering machines and stencil printers are now manufactured at Ersa according to the Toyota principle in cycles. The i-CON soldering station is launched on the market.

 

2010

KNOW HOW TRANSFER

As a certified training center of the DVS, Ersa is authorized to train manual soldering workers. Since then, the range of training courses has steadily expanded. Today, Ersa passes on its process know-how worldwide according to uniform quality standards.

 

2011

A reason to celebrate

Ersa celebrates its 90th anniversary with a staff party at Wertheim Castle and an international sales meeting with celebration at Bronnbach Monastery.

 

2013

REFLOW GOES CHINA

The markets for electronics manufacturing are constantly changing. Kurtz Ersa responds to this by establishing its own subsidiary in Mexico. At its plant in Zhuhai, China, Ersa builds reflow soldering systems for the local market for the first time.

 

2016

VIVA MEXICO

The Mexican presence is being extended in 2016 by a demo and tech center in Guadalajara. The successful Ersa Hybrid Rework series, introduced in 2011, gets further growth in the entry-level segment with HR 500 and HR 550.

 

2017-2018

PROFESSIONAL LOGISTICS

'To accommodate the significant growth and the resulting demands on professional logistics, Kurtz Ersa opens its logistics center in Kreuzwertheim-Wiebelbach after a construction period of only 14 months.

 

2018

GLOBAL LEADER

'The VERSAFLOW selective soldering machines are leading worldwide. The 1,000th system of the 3/45 series is delivered to a Swedish customer in 2018. In October 2021, system No. 1,500 will already be installed.

 

2019

EXPANSION IN ASIA

Kurtz Ersa Vietnam is founded. On December 5, Kurtz Ersa Asia Ltd. celebrates its 15th anniversary in Zhuhai and inaugurates the large extension building.

 

2019-2020

EXPANSION IN WERTHEIM

A new SMART Factory production building with two cycle production lines for soldering machines and stencil printers is being built in Wertheim-Bestenheid. Even though old buildings have to be demolished in the process, there is not a single day of production downtime.

 

2020-2021

SUCCESSFUL REFLOW SOLDERING

'The Ersa EXOS convection reflow soldering system, which features a vacuum module for the first time, receives several technology awards. In 2021, the 2,000th HOTFLOW 3 reflow machine is delivered at the Zuhai plant.

 

2021

100 YEARS OF ERSA

'Ersa celebrates its company anniversary on November 18th at Productronica in Munich. Founded in Berlin 100 years ago at this day, the company once again impresses the industry with innovative product premieres. Let us surprise you!
